Chemical Drum Pumps for Acids, Caustics and Solvents
The most important choice in a chemical drum pump is the material the liquid touches. A pump that is fine for one acid can fail quickly with another. Start with the chemical, then choose the material, then choose hand or electric.
Match the pump material to the chemical
Polypropylene: a common choice for hydrochloric acid, dilute sulfuric acid, acetic acid and many caustics. Polypropylene Electric Barrel Pump (7400) moves 35 GPM, can run dry, and includes hose, nozzle and bung adapter.
PVDF: for stronger acids and more aggressive chemicals. PVDF Electric Barrel Pump (7423).
Stainless steel and PTFE: for solvents such as MEK, acetone and toluene. Stainless & PTFE Hand Pump, 22 oz/stroke (THP-ST).
Flammable liquids: use FM approved equipment such as Safety Flow-55 (SF55).
Hand or electric?
If you empty a drum occasionally, a hand pump is inexpensive and reliable. If you empty several drums a week, an electric barrel pump pays for itself in labor and reduces the chance of a spill.
Before you buy
Check the chemical's Safety Data Sheet and a compatibility chart for the pump's wetted materials.
Note the concentration and temperature. Both change which material is safe.
Measure the drum depth so the pump tube reaches the bottom.
Get the right pump the first time
Send us your chemical and concentration and we'll confirm compatibility before you order. Call 1-847-802-2158 (9am–5pm Central) or send us your needs. Tell us the liquid, the container and how much you move each week, and we'll match the pump. Quantity pricing is available for fleets, districts and multi-location buyers.
